Travelers heading to George Bush Intercontinental Airport could face traffic delays this week as construction work reduces the number of lanes available near the airport.
The roadwork started on Monday at 10 p.m. and will continue through Friday, according to the Houston Airport System.
Construction will affect southbound John F. Kennedy Boulevard near the airport’s Marriott hotel, close to Terminals A and B. Drivers should prepare for possible backups and allow extra time when traveling to or from the airport.
Detour signs will direct motorists to Will Clayton Parkway. Law enforcement officers will also be at the work sites to help manage traffic.
Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detours and give themselves additional time to reach their terminals, especially if they have an upcoming flight.
The construction comes as Bush Airport prepares for the opening of its new Terminal B facilities this fall. The $2.5 billion redevelopment project includes expanded boarding gates, improvements to the United Airlines lounge and upgraded passenger amenities, including a sensory room for travelers with disabilities.
